It seems like phone manufacturers are locked in an endless race to deliver the most impressive camera specs. While giants like Apple and Samsung tend to play it safe with incremental upgrades, some Chinese brands are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in smartphone photography. I'm talking about companies like vivo, which seems determined to shake things up.

If you thought detachable lenses were wild, get ready for this: the upcoming vivo X300 Ultra is rumored to sport dual 200MP cameras. Yes, you read that right. We're talking about a 200MP primary lens and a 200MP periscopic telephoto lens. That's a serious commitment to image quality.

According to a reliable source, the primary 200MP camera will have a 35mm focal length, similar to its predecessor. In comparison, other 200MP phones, like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, use a shorter 23mm focal length. What does this mean for you? Well, the longer focal length should result in photos with a narrower field of view but a shallower depth of field. In layman's terms, this should translate to better, more natural-looking portrait shots, even without using a dedicated portrait mode.

It appears the 50MP ultrawide-angle camera will remain the same, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Additionally, the phone is also likely to get an improved Zeiss T* coating. If you don't know what it means, this coating minimizes lens flare. It means cleaner, more vibrant images, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

Under the hood, the vivo X300 Ultra is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a change from the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 found in the X300 and X300 Pro. The question is: will this phone make its way outside of China? I certainly hope so, because I'm eager to see what this camera setup can do in the real world.
