So, Vivo's shaking things up with its latest Android skin, OriginOS 6, for its global phones. For a while now, they've had a different approach in China with OriginOS and the rest of the world with Fun Touch OS. Many users wanted OriginOS to go global, and it seems like Vivo has listened – kind of.

Instead of Fun Touch OS 16, we're getting OriginOS 6. However, it doesn't seem to be the same OriginOS you'd find in China. From what I gather, it's more like a mix of Fun Touch OS and OriginOS. The app drawer and home screens don't seem to have changed much. But, some icons are taken from OriginOS, such as the phone and album apps.

When you swipe down the notification shade, you will notice a change. The quick settings have been redesigned, sporting larger tiles with transparency and blur effects similar to iOS 26. It's not the only time that they're making an Apple comparison. While the quick settings menu and notification shade look neat, I must say I still prefer Fun Touch OS. It’s because it shows an additional quick setting tile before needing a second pull-down. However, the addition of a volume bar below the brightness slider, similar to One UI, is a good touch.

I'm happy to see more widgets in this global version, as the previous versions of OriginOS also had some cool widgets on China-only phones. They included widgets for UV and PM 2.5 index, a battery widget for accessories, and different note-taking widgets. The settings menu in OriginOS 6 has also been tweaked, with boxes and lines dividing each entry, similar to Expressive-style.

One feature that caught my eye is the Flip Cards feature. It uses your phone's accelerometer to change lock screen wallpapers as you tilt it. I'm also glad to see the Motion Prompts feature, which displays moving dots on the screen to combat motion sickness. As someone who gets car sick, I am really looking forward to trying this one out.

Vivo also implemented a 3D lock screen clock feature, which adapts to your wallpaper, similar to Apple's implementation. With this clock concept, the return of lock screen widgets, transparency effects in the notification shade, and the Origin Island, it’s pretty obvious that Vivo has taken inspiration from iOS. I find it a little disappointing since Fun Touch OS wasn't copying aesthetics from Apple.

On the bright side, Vivo is bringing PC and Mac integration to its global phones. This feature was already available on China-only phones. To use it, you'll need to install the Office Kit app on your computer, which allows you to mirror your phone, transfer files, and take notes. Vivo says it's focused on delivering a smooth experience with slick animations and the software is certified by SGS for five years of smooth performance.

OriginOS 6 also comes with AI features, such as writing tools, translation smarts, and summarization capabilities. I am disappointed that some tools still require an internet connection. I'm not a big fan of most AI tools, but in this particular area, companies such as Google and Samsung outdo Vivo.

I've also noted that the Chinese version of OriginOS 6 has features such as object erasing for live photos and shake-to-share functionality, however these options aren't available in the global skin. Currently, Vivo is offering an OriginOS 6 beta program for the global X200 Pro and Iqoo 13 models. A release window for the stable version isn't known, however I'll update the article as soon as I hear more details.
