Sony Plans to Keep Making Xperia Phones, New Models Expected in 2026
It feels like these days are tough for smartphone companies. We're seeing brands either disappear, scale back their flagship plans or deny reports of financial struggles. Sometimes, I wonder if only Samsung and Apple will be left standing. But as we wait to see what happens, there's a bit of good news: Sony seems determined to keep making phones.
Sony has been in the Xperia phone game for a long time, even before Android became its main platform. They've consistently released new models. Even though Sony is shifting its focus in some areas, like partnering with TCL on TVs, it seems committed to its mobile division. Last year, they confirmed they were still interested in making new Xperia phones, and now, we have more evidence of what they're working on.
We were already expecting a Sony Xperia 1 VIII, with model numbers like PM-1521-BV showing up in a database. Now, more new Sony model numbers have been spotted in the GSMA’s IMEI database. It seems like these numbers represent different versions of the Sony Xperia 1 VIII.
The Sony Xperia 10 VIII has also been anticipated, and it appears to be represented by those 1530-series entries. Sadly, there's no indication in this database that Sony will bring either model to the US.
This isn't too surprising, and honestly, I'm just glad to see that Sony is still moving forward with new phones. Even if some of us are a bit envious of those who can easily buy these phones, it's good to know that the Android world isn't losing one of its oldest players, at least not yet.
