Samsung's One UI 8.5 Might Block Annoying Notification Ad Spam
As someone who's constantly bombarded with notifications, I'm always on the lookout for ways to manage the digital noise. So, I was intrigued to learn about a potential new feature in Samsung's upcoming One UI 8.5. It seems Samsung is taking aim at those apps that relentlessly spam you with ads via notifications.
The idea is simple: if an app is constantly pushing out what the system identifies as excessive ads, One UI 8.5 might automatically put it into "deep sleep." Now, deep sleep isn't exactly a new concept, as One UI already uses it for apps you haven't touched in a while. But, extending it to apps based on their notification behavior? That's a potentially game-changing move.
From what I've gathered, there might be two approaches to this. The first is pretty straightforward: blocking apps that send a high volume of notifications that look like ads. The second, and arguably more interesting, involves "intelligent blocking." This would analyze the content of notifications right on your device to determine if they're ads.
However, it's worth remembering that One UI already offers some tools for managing notifications. You can dive into your settings and selectively disable marketing notifications for individual apps. The catch? It relies on developers properly categorizing their notifications, which isn't always the case.
If developers aren't playing ball, Samsung's new approach could be a welcome solution. If you don't use the app frequently, you might be interested in blocking all notifications from it, sending it to the famous "deep sleep". I'm eager to get my hands on the One UI 8.5 beta when it drops to see how well this new feature works in practice.
