It looks like Samsung's about to throw its hat into the ring with a new mixed reality headset, currently dubbed "Project Moohan." I've been following this for a while, and the buzz is that it's going to be a direct competitor to Apple's Vision Pro. Samsung is touting this as a step into a new age, one powered by AI-native devices.

From what I’ve gathered, Samsung gave us a sneak peek of Project Moohan back in January, and the design is strikingly similar to the Vision Pro. Think ski goggles with a soft, fabric seal for comfort and a single padded strap. Even the external battery pack is reminiscent of Apple's approach, which, if you ask me, is a smart way to keep the headset itself lightweight.

What really caught my eye is the operating system: Android XR. Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm collaborated on this, making it Google's answer to visionOS. So, users can expect to jump into virtual environments or use cameras to stay connected to the real world, much like the Vision Pro.

AI Integration

However, Samsung's headset seems to be leaning heavily into AI. With Gemini support, it's expected to offer enhanced device controls and even provide context about what you're seeing. Imagine watching YouTube on a virtual big screen or experiencing Google Maps in a whole new immersive way. Chrome could offer multiple virtual screens for multitasking, and Google Photos will support 3D images.

The unveiling event is happening tomorrow night. Personally, I'm eager to see how Samsung differentiates its offering, especially in terms of AI integration and user experience. It will be interesting to evaluate if the new headset will establish itself as a serious contender to Apple's Vision Pro, or just another player in the immersive technology field.
