Samsung Wide Fold vs. iPhone Fold: New Renders Preview the Future
It sounds like the foldable phone market is about to get a serious shake-up. For a while now, we've been hearing whispers about Samsung and Apple working on devices that could rival each other. The latest buzz suggests both tech giants are developing wide-screen foldables, potentially launching as early as 2026.
The Foldable Face-Off
If you are like me, you're probably wondering what these devices will actually look like. Thanks to some leaked dimensions and AI-generated renders, we're getting a clearer picture. Leaker Ice Universe has shared some interesting renders of the "Samsung Wide Fold" and the "iPhone Fold" on Weibo, giving us a glimpse of what to expect. While these aren't official images, they're based on leaked information, so they offer a pretty good idea of the devices' shapes.
The renders suggest that the Samsung Wide Fold might have a 5.4-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch internal display. On the other hand, the iPhone Fold is rumored to feature a 5.35-inch cover display and a 7.58-inch internal display. Both are expected to have a 4:3 aspect ratio for the internal display.
What's interesting is that, according to the leaker, the designs are incredibly similar, with the main difference being the R-angle, or the curvature of the corners. It seems Samsung is going for sharper, more squared-off corners, while Apple is opting for softer, rounder ones. Personally, I think Apple's approach might be more comfortable to hold, but Samsung's design could look more uniform when the device is folded.
However, it's important to remember that these are just renders. They give us a sense of the shape and size, but the final products could look quite different.
Other leaks suggest the iPhone Fold might come in black and white, with a less visible crease on the internal display. Max Jambor suggests there will be a crease, but it might not be as noticeable as on current foldables.
Ultimately, it'll be interesting to see how consumers react to these wide foldables. Will they replace regular phones, or will they end up being niche devices? The launch of these devices in 2026 can't come soon enough, if you ask me.
