Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Could Rival Foldable iPhone with Crease-Free Display
Word on the street is that Apple's highly anticipated foldable iPhone might not be the only player in the "crease-free" game. According to sources familiar with the situation, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 could also be sporting a display without that annoying crease we've come to expect in foldable phones.
Apparently, Apple's stringent standards for a crease-free foldable have pushed other manufacturers, like Samsung, to up their game. We're talking about a laser-drilled metal plate inside the display, designed to spread out the stress from bending and, consequently, eliminate that pesky crease. It's the same technology rumored for the foldable iPhone.
Currently, the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 still shows a visible crease. However, next year's Z Fold 8 might change the game. The same company that will provide the crease-free component for Apple, is also supposedly providing for samsung.
If these reports are true, it means we're about to enter a new era of foldable phones, where aesthetics and usability take center stage. As much as I appreciate innovation, that crease has always bothered me. It will be good to see it gone!
From what I understand, Apple plans to start mass production in the second half of 2026, which means we could see a foldable iPhone sometime next year. It's expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display, a 5.5-inch outer display, dual rear cameras, a single front camera, and a Touch ID power button. No Face ID, apparently.
