Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge's Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge, launching May 12th, promises a significant advancement in display protection. The device will feature the groundbreaking Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, a new material developed in collaboration with Corning.
This marks the first commercial application of this technology, previously announced in March. Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 is described as a next-generation composite that incorporates crystals into a glass matrix, enhancing toughness, crack resistance, and maintaining optical clarity. The material has been rigorously tested and proven capable of withstanding ten repeated drops from a height of one meter onto asphalt.
A Collaborative Effort
Samsung highlights the crucial role of Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 in achieving the Galaxy S25 Edge's design goals. Kwangjin Bae, EVP and Head of Mechanical R&D at Samsung's MX division, emphasizes the need for a display material that balances exceptional thinness with unparalleled strength. This collaboration showcases a commitment to innovation in mobile device design.
Corning, the manufacturer of the protective glass, points to its ion-exchange strengthening process as the key to achieving a remarkable balance of thinness and strength in Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. This new material further solidifies the company's dedication to durable, premium mobile design.
