Pixel Watch 4: Sticking with the Old Chip, But Bigger Batteries!
Pixel Watch 4: Same Chip, But There's a Catch!
As we get closer to Google's big Pixel event in 2025, the rumor mill is churning. I've been keeping a close eye on the leaks, and while we know a lot about the upcoming Pixel phones, the Pixel Watch 4 has been more of a mystery. But, thanks to a source within Google, some new details have come to light.
It looks like Google is sticking with what works. The Pixel Watch 4 will apparently come in two sizes, just like the current model. The larger 45mm version is codenamed "kenari," and the smaller 41mm one is "meridian" - both Star Wars planets. What's interesting is that both will have LTE and Wi-Fi options, like before.
Now, here's the thing that might raise an eyebrow: Google is reportedly using the same Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform for the *third* year in a row! While some might see this as a letdown, I think there's a good reason behind it. Qualcomm is working on a next-gen platform, but it's not quite ready yet. And switching to an Exynos chip? That might not be worth the effort since Google might be moving to its own wearable chip soon.
However, it's not all the same! Google is planning to improve the next watches by adding larger batteries. The 41mm model is getting a bump from 307mAh to 327mAh, while the bigger 45mm model is going from 420mAh to 459mAh. They are also going to have faster charging speeds.
I wouldn't write off the Pixel Watch 4 just yet. Even though it doesn't have major spec changes, the Pixel Watch 3 used the same chip as the year before and did very well. There's a good chance Google will deliver again with this new generation, even if the upgrades are smaller. I'm expecting the Pixel Watch 4 to launch next month, along with the Pixel 10 series.
