Pixel 10 Might Ditch Physical SIM Cards: What This Means for You
Okay, so the big question swirling around the upcoming Pixel 10 launch is: are we finally ditching physical SIM cards for good? For those of us who've been following the leaks, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster. However, a recent image shared by Evan Blass is fueling the fire. The image shows a label that pretty much screams, "eSIM is the future!"
The label reads: "You no longer need a physical SIM card. Activate your eSIM during phone setup." Now, while it doesn't explicitly say there's no SIM card slot, it definitely hints at a major shift. Blass has previously stated that the Pixel 10, 10 Pro, and 10 Pro XL are all going eSIM-only. Apparently, if you still want the ability to physically swap SIMs, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be the only option. It is interesting to me that google is trying to go to a fully digital sim in all phones except the foldable.
The shift to eSIM-only isn't a new concept. Apple already made the leap with the iPhone 14. It makes things easier for most people, especially when setting up a new phone or switching carriers. However, and this is a big "however," it could be a pain for travelers. I know when I travel, I like to grab a local SIM card for cheaper data. It's simply more convenient.
Ultimately, the advantages of eSIM are clear. Streamlined setup, less physical hardware, and potentially more space inside the phone. But the real test will be how Google handles the transition and whether they address the concerns of those who still rely on physical SIMs.
