OnePlus 15R: Teaser Reveals Launch Soon for Budget-Friendly Flagship
So, last week OnePlus took the wraps off its shiny new OnePlus 15, but something felt missing, right? I, like many others, was expecting the usual "R" model to show up. You know, the one that gives you a great bang for your buck? But nada. However, don't get your hopes down yet. OnePlus has finally started teasing the OnePlus 15R, hinting that it's just around the corner.
What's interesting is that OnePlus has been dropping hints on their UK and India websites. We can see a silhouette of the phone in two colors, a dark gray and a metallic green. And if you look closely, you might notice a resemblance to another OnePlus device, the OnePlus Ace 6, which recently launched in China. For me, this isn't a huge surprise. Remember how the OnePlus Ace 5 became the OnePlus 13R in other parts of the world?
What about Specs?
Based on what the Ace 6 offers, I think it's safe to say the OnePlus 15R will pack a punch. I am expecting it to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset – they often use the previous year's flagship chip in these models. And, of course, it will have plenty of RAM and storage, similar to the OnePlus 15. Imagine a smooth 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen with a super-fast 165Hz refresh rate! Also, it might get an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is an upgrade.
While the Chinese version of the Ace 6 boasts a massive 7,800mAh battery with 120W charging, I am not sure if that will make it to the global version. I suspect that to keep costs down, there might be some compromises, specially in the camera setup. I think that keeping the phone more affordable for us is something positive.
The million-dollar question is, will it be as affordable as the OnePlus 13R with its $599 price tag? We'll have to wait and see. One thing I know is that if they achieve that price again, they will sell many units!
And that's not all! It looks like OnePlus is also planning to release a "New Watch" alongside the 15R. The design reminds me of the OPPO Watch S. So, yet another rebrand? What I can tell you is that is boasts a 10-day battery life, thanks to a custom OS instead of Wear OS. Oneplus may be having issues with the latest Wear OS version.
While there's no official launch date yet, OnePlus has hinted the 15R should be here before the end of the year. However, there's no mention of these launches on the US site, so, for us here, there might be a bit of a wait.
