Next iPad Pro Could Feature Slimmer Bezels via LG Innotek's Display Tech

Mobile Devices

Hey, have you heard? Apple might be shaking things up with the next iPad Pro! I’ve been digging into some reports, and it looks like they're considering using LG Innotek's chip-on-film (CoF) technology for the OLED displays.

What's so cool about that, you ask? Well, this tech could mean super-slim bezels on the iPad Pro. We're talking about a sleeker design without losing any of that precious screen real estate.

Essentially, CoF technology lets them attach the display driver chips directly to the panels. Imagine more screen, less frame. It's a win-win! It appears Apple might make a final decision sometime this month after testing LX Semicon’s display driver IC.

Now, I know what you might be thinking: "Why the change?" Well, Apple has been using Samsung System LSI for these chips, but switching to LG Innotek would diversify their supply chain. I think it makes perfect sense. More competition often means better prices and potentially even better tech down the line.

Although it's not clear exactly which iPad Pro will feature this upgrade, rumors point to the Pro line. And speaking of the future, get this: we could see an M5 chip in the iPad Pro as early as the second half of 2025. I'm excited about the performance improvements that this new chip will bring.

Plus, there's talk of landscape-oriented Apple logos and even Apple-designed 5G modems by 2027. Imagine being able to ditch those clunky external modems and enjoying a seamless, Apple-engineered connection.

But wait, there's more! Brace yourself for this: a foldable 18.8-inch iPad Pro might be on the horizon as early as 2027. I can’t even imagine having that much screen real estate. That’s closer to a small TV than a tablet. Who knows what Apple has planned.

I'm always on the lookout for new tech and I'll be sure to update you as more news breaks! I find these potential changes pretty exciting, and I am eager to see how they play out.
