Siri & Apple Intelligence

New Siri to get AI-Power from Google's Gemini

Mobile

Apple is gearing up for a significant overhaul of Siri, planning to roll out a revamped version around March of next year. Along with this update, they're expected to launch a new smart home display product, complete with speaker-base and wall-mount options. It seems like they're doubling down on creating a more integrated and intuitive smart home experience.

And that's not all! The upcoming Apple TV and HomePod mini, slated for release soon, will also play a crucial role in showcasing the new Siri and Apple Intelligence features. If you're like me, you've probably wondered how Apple plans to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Here's the interesting part: this new Siri will apparently "lean" on Google's Gemini and feature an AI-powered web search. While this sounds promising, one has to wonder if users will actually embrace it. I mean, can it truly deliver a seamless experience and undo the years of frustration some people have had with Siri? It's a valid concern.

The Google Partnership

Apple is reportedly paying Google to create a customized Gemini-based model to run on its Private Cloud Compute servers, specifically to power Siri. This doesn't mean Siri will suddenly be flooded with Google services or Gemini features. Instead, it sounds like Siri will leverage Gemini's capabilities in the background, delivering the features we expect with Apple's signature user interface. It will be interesting to see how this collaboration manifests in the actual user experience.

Apple also plans to preview iOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and other operating systems at their annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June. I'd expect that these updates will focus on major advancements in Apple Intelligence and their broader AI strategy.

However, there are challenges in China, where regulatory issues continue to plague the launch of Apple Intelligence, turning the launch date into a "rolling target".
