Motorola Edge 70: A strong contender appears to challenge Samsung

Mobile

Motorola's been pretty open about their work on a Galaxy S25 Edge competitor, and it looks like the wait is almost over. The phone, already known in China as the Moto X70 Air, is now appearing on Motorola's European websites, hinting at an imminent global launch as the Motorola Edge 70. I think it's a smart move for Motorola to take on the competition head-on.

Interestingly, the full specifications of the Edge 70 have surfaced on Motorola's Polish website. You can see detailed images showcasing the phone in three different PANTONE colors: Gadget Grey, Lilly Pad, and Bronze Green. From what I've seen, the design is sleek and modern, which is definitely a plus.

The Motorola Edge 70 boasts a 6.67-inch pOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The display also supports HDR10+ and cranks up to a peak brightness of 4500 nits. With a Super HD resolution of 2,712 x 1,22o (446 ppi), images and videos should appear sharp and vibrant. This, combined with its powerful specs, makes me really wonder how it will fare against Samsung's offering.

Under the hood, it's powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, coupled with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The 4,800mAh battery is also a notable feature, exceeding the Galaxy S25 Edge's 3,900mAh battery. In terms of cameras, it sports a 50MP front camera and a triple rear camera setup, all at 50MP. It also allows 4K video recording at 30 or 60FPS. I believe that battery size alone could make a difference to consumers.

When it comes to size, the Edge 70 measures 159 × 74 × 5.99mm. For comparison, the dimensions for the Galaxy S25 Edge are 158.2 x 75.6 x 5.8mm. So, it's pretty similar in size, which is something to consider if you're looking for a phone that's easy to handle. In short, I think Motorola is bringing some serious heat to the competition. It'll be interesting to see how it performs in real-world use and how it's priced in different markets.

Other Features

Besides that, expect 68W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, Gorilla Glass 7i, IP69/IP68 water and dust protection, two Dolby Atmos speakers, and Gemini voice control. Listings have also appeared on other European Motorola sites, with the UK site showing a price of £700.00 (about $924 USD). I reckon this phone will be a strong contender if the price is right.
