iPhone Fold Rumors: Smaller Display, Dual 48MP Cameras, and Premium Price Tag in 2026
So, the foldable iPhone – or iPhone Fold, as everyone is calling it – is still very much a topic of conversation. I mean, we've been hearing whispers about it for ages, but now things seem to be getting a bit more concrete. Apple has apparently ordered flexible display panels, which suggests they're serious about launching this premium foldable device in 2026. I'm excited about this. Aren't you?
A reliable source, Digital Chat Station, has been dropping some hints about the display and cameras on the iPhone Fold. It sounds like Apple is trying to one-up the competition, especially the Galaxy Z Fold, which, by 2026, will probably be on its seventh iteration! It's a tall order, I think.
If the rumors are true, the foldable iPhone will have a 14.1:10 aspect ratio with a 2,713 x 1,920 pixels resolution. However, what's interesting is that the screen might be a bit smaller than initially anticipated – 7.58 inches instead of 7.8 inches. That's still a decent size, but it's smaller than what we expect from the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This shows how Apple is going for a more rectangular design, like their iPads, compared to the squarish designs we see from Samsung and others. I like this approach!
The leaker also mentioned that the iPhone Fold is likely to feature dual 48MP cameras on the back. What they will be used for and what are the front cameras resolution are still a mystery. The iPhone 16 Pro has two 48MP cameras, including the primary and ultrawide, along with a 12MP periscope. Apple might ditch the periscope to save space on the Fold. We don't know whether the 48MP sensors are the same as those on the iPhone 16 Pro or different. Samsung is likely to deploy a 200MP camera on the upcoming Fold 7.
Also, there is this mysterious “amorphous metal glass composite” that may be used in the hinge, along with titanium for the external frame. I'm intrigued to see how this material feels and how durable it will be. Durability is a big question mark for foldables, in my opinion.
Now, let's talk about the price. The foldable iPhone is rumored to cost between $2,000 and $2,500. It's a hefty price tag. But it is a premium device after all. Also, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said it will be released with the iPhone 18 series in the second half of 2026 and it won’t be an annual release.
However, Foxconn is yet to start producing prototypes. When it does in the coming months, we may see changes related to the iPhone Fold’s specifications. It's still early days, and things could change. I'll keep you updated as I hear more!
