iPhone Air Sells Out Fast in China After eSIM Approval

Mobile Technology

It seems like the new iPhone Air is a hit in China! I read that it sold out pretty quickly after pre-orders opened. It's interesting to see how different markets react to these devices; apparently, the demand was even higher than what we saw in Western countries when it launched there last month.

The starting price is around $1,122, which is quite an investment. But, that didn't stop people from snatching them up. One key difference with the Chinese launch is the eSIM feature. You see, it got delayed there because they needed government approval for eSIM technology, which lets you activate a mobile number without a physical SIM card. This is the first time Chinese users have this option.

It also appears that China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom are now allowed to start commercial eSIM operations. That's a big deal because it removes the regulatory hurdles for the iPhone Air launch.

I think it's a smart move from Apple to push for eSIM technology. As phones get thinner and more streamlined, getting rid of the physical SIM card slot makes a lot of sense. Plus, for users, it adds a layer of convenience, making it easier to switch between networks or manage multiple numbers. It'll be interesting to see if this trend continues and how other manufacturers respond.
