iPhone 18 Pro: Leaks Point to Design Tweaks, Camera Upgrades and AI
Apple's already planning for the future, and that includes the iPhone 18 Pro, expected in 2026. While it's still a ways off, rumors are starting to paint a picture of what we can expect. However, things are always subject to change, so take everything with a grain of salt.
Design and Display: Staying Familiar?
I’ve heard that the iPhone 18 Pro might stick with a design similar to the iPhone 17 Pro. The camera setup on the back could look the same, with the three lenses arranged in a familiar triangle. Also, the screen sizes might not change either, keeping the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch panels for the Pro and Pro Max models, respectively. What I'm really hoping for is a better screen protection since I already broke two of them.
However, there's a chance Apple might ditch the two-tone look on the back in favor of a more seamless design. They're supposedly working on a new process to make the color difference between the glass and the aluminum frame less noticeable, which would give the phone a more unified appearance.
Bigger Battery? A Thicker Design
One interesting rumor suggests the iPhone 18 Pro Max might be a bit thicker and heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. I imagine that could mean a larger battery, which is always a welcome change. I can't really complain about bigger battery, since I keep running out of it.
Dynamic Island: To Shrink or Vanish?
The Dynamic Island has been a hot topic, and there are conflicting reports about its future. Some say Apple is aiming to get rid of it entirely, replacing it with a small pinhole camera. Others believe it'll stick around, but in a smaller form. Apple is also supposedly working on ways to make the front-facing camera smaller, which could help shrink the Dynamic Island.
A20 Pro Chip: More AI Power
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be powered by the A20 Pro chip. While it might not offer a huge leap in raw CPU and GPU performance compared to the A19 Pro, it's expected to have a more advanced packaging method called CoWoS. This could improve performance in AI tasks, which seems to be a big focus for Apple going forward. I can't wait to see more AI features being implemented in future phones.
New Camera Tech: Variable Aperture and More
The camera is always a major focus, and the iPhone 18 Pro could bring some interesting changes. There's talk of a new image sensor from Samsung, which could improve camera responsiveness and reduce noise. Even more intriguing, the main camera might get a variable aperture lens, similar to what you'd find on a DSLR. This would give users more control over depth of field and allow for better low-light shots. Apple is well-know for its camera quality, and I think this will take to another level.
5G Satellite Internet: Connectivity Anywhere
One of the most exciting rumors is that Apple is planning to add support for 5G networks that operate via satellites. This would allow future iPhones to connect to the internet even in areas without traditional cell service. If this happens, the iPhone 18 Pro could be one of the first devices to offer this feature.
