HUAWEI Gears Up New Tri-Fold as Samsung Enters the Foldable Arena
It looks like the competition in the foldable phone market is really heating up! While Samsung's been teasing its first tri-fold phone, whispers from South Korea suggest that HUAWEI might be a step ahead. According to reports, HUAWEI is planning to launch the next generation of its tri-fold phone later this year.
Now, if you remember, HUAWEI released the Mate XT Ultimate Design not too long ago. If you don't, it’s ok. Anyway, apparently, the new model aims to improve on the original’s durability and performance. And to be fair, the original did pretty well, selling over 400,000 units in its first couple of months.
Meanwhile, Samsung's tri-fold plans are starting to solidify. Leaks from One UI 8 have given us a first look at its design, revealing two inward-folding hinges in a G-shape. The release is expected sometime in the fourth quarter, but there's a catch: it might only be available in South Korea and China, and it's definitely not going to be cheap. We are talking about a big investment here.
Spec-wise, the Samsung tri-fold – potentially called the Galaxy G Fold – is rumored to have a 10-inch OLED display, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and a camera setup similar to the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, including a massive 200MP primary sensor. That's a lot of firepower! However, its slim design might mean a smaller battery compared to HUAWEI's Mate XT, which packs a 5,600mAh cell.
I remember when we reviewed the Mate XT; its incredibly high price and the lack of Google services made it impractical for many. However, you couldn't deny its cool engineering. Now, with HUAWEI working on a sequel even before Samsung's first tri-fold hits the market, the race for the top spot in the ultra-premium foldable category is becoming increasingly competitive.
