HMD Teases a Curious Hybrid Phone: Touchscreen and Feature Phone OS

Mobile

HMD, a company known for its affordable feature phones, is teasing a new device called the HMD Touch 4G. They're calling it a hybrid phone, which is intriguing. I've seen the images, and it seems like a compact phone with a touchscreen. It's giving me Nokia N9 vibes, but smaller.

What's really interesting is that it apparently doesn't run Android. Instead, the operating system looks like a feature phone OS, maybe with a Symbian-inspired interface. HMD has used similar platforms before, so I wouldn't expect Android app support or even full Google services. It might be more basic than KaiOS.

Based on the images, it appears to have a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a front-facing camera for video calls, and even comes with a fast charger and case. There's also a headphone jack, an extra button on top, and a single button on the front. While it's not necessarily the first touchscreen feature phone, it's an interesting approach in 2025. I think this phone could be a hit with people who want a simple, affordable device for basic communication and entertainment.

I reckon it could be a good option for those who want to disconnect from the distractions of smartphones but still need some basic features like calling, texting, and maybe some light browsing. Since the launch is expected soon, I'm eager to see all the details.
