Google Updates Android System Intelligence Look with Material 3 Design
Google's been busy giving its apps and system features a Material 3 makeover, and the latest to get the treatment is Android System Intelligence. As someone who appreciates a clean and consistent user interface, I'm always happy to see these updates roll out.
The update brings a refreshed look to settings pages for features like Now Playing, At a Glance, Live Translate, Apps in Search, and Live Captions. Think updated graphics, rounder UI elements, bigger buttons, and a generally more modern feel. It's all part of Google's broader effort to align the look and feel of Android with its Material 3 design language.
It's interesting to see how the new settings pages now use more visually distinct cards to organize the settings options, which, in my opinion, makes it easier to find what you're looking for. Also, while most of the changes are cosmetic, Google's also tweaked some of the descriptions and labels. For instance, the "Show word duration effect" option on the Expressive captions page is now "Lengthen words," which is a bit clearer, I think.
Availability
However, before you rush off to check your phone, there's a catch. For now, these updated settings pages are only available on Pixel devices running the latest Android 16 QPR1 beta. If you're not on the beta, you'll have to wait until Android 16 QPR1 hits the stable channel. Google's expected to release it on September, so we'll have to be patient.
In the grand scheme of things, this update might seem small. However, it's these little details that contribute to a more polished and enjoyable user experience. And as someone who uses these features regularly, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing these changes on my own device.
