Galaxy S26 Ultra: Charging Speed Upgrade Incoming?

Mobile

I've been following the rumors surrounding the next Galaxy S Ultra, and it seems like Samsung might finally be upping its charging game. We've been stuck with 45W charging on the Ultra models for what feels like forever, and while it's not terrible, it's definitely lagging behind the competition.

The latest buzz suggests that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could be sporting either 60W or 65W wired charging. While some sources are pointing to 60W, others are claiming it'll be 65W. Honestly, at this point, I'd be happy with either! It's a step in the right direction.

Now, I know what you're thinking: 60W or 65W isn't exactly groundbreaking. You're right, there are plenty of Android phones out there with much faster charging speeds, like 80W or even 120W. But consider this: Samsung has historically been pretty conservative when it comes to charging speeds. They prioritize battery health and longevity, which I can respect.

Even with the current 45W charging, Samsung has been tweaking things behind the scenes to optimize the charging process. What I mean is that it can achieve a full charge in just under an hour, which isn’t too shabby. For example, the Galaxy S23 Ultra charges faster than the S22 Ultra, even though they both have the same wattage. I remember reading somewhere that this is because Samsung has been working on keeping the phone at its peak charging speed for longer periods.

If Samsung does make the jump to 60W or 65W, I'm hoping they'll continue to fine-tune the charging algorithms to maximize efficiency. It's not just about the peak wattage, it's about how long the phone can sustain that speed. If they can pull that off, we could be looking at a significant improvement in charging times, which would be a welcome addition to an already impressive phone.
