Apple Watch Ultra 3: Satellite and 5G Connectivity on the Horizon

Mobile Technology

The Apple Watch Ultra is set to get a refresh. If you're waiting for the next big thing in smartwatches, the Ultra 3 might just be it. I'm hearing whispers that it will feature satellite connectivity and, get this, 5G support. Imagine being able to stay connected even when you're off the grid – that's the promise here. The current Ultra models have LTE, so this is a huge step forward, potentially a special 5G version optimized for smartwatches, which is pretty cool.

Last year's Ultra 2 was a bit of a letdown for some, with only a new black titanium case option to show for it. It didn't bring much in terms of hardware upgrades since its initial release in 2023. Because of that, expectations are high for the Ultra 3 to deliver some serious improvements. Think about it: the Ultra is Apple's top-tier smartwatch, so it needs to push the boundaries.

So, what else can we expect? A faster S10 chip is definitely on the cards, along with faster charging – because who has time to wait around for their watch to charge? There are also rumors of a wide-angle OLED display that’s brighter when viewed from different angles and has a higher refresh rate for that always-on display. These improvements were already introduced on the Apple Watch Series 10 last year, so its natural for the Ultra to also follow the same improvements.

It's also important to mention the blood pressure monitoring feature. Apple has been working on it for a while, but they're still facing some hurdles. Because of those issues, I wouldn't bet on it being ready in time for the Ultra 3 launch, which is expected in a couple of months. Either way, it shows that Apple is pushing the envelope. I am excited to see the Ultra 3. It sounds like it's going to be a real game-changer.
