Android Auto Fixes GameSnacks Glitch and Prepares for More Changes
So, some folks using Android Auto noticed GameSnacks vanished from their in-car app list. At first, there was worry that Google was ditching the gaming app optimized for car displays. But, turns out, it was just a glitch! Google has confirmed they fixed it, and to get GameSnacks back, all you need to do is update your Android Auto app to the latest version (15.3 or newer). Easy peasy.
However, that's not all! Digging into the Android Auto 15.5 beta version, some changes are coming. It seems like Android 8.0/8.1 support will finally end. Even though Google mentioned last year that Android Auto needed Android 9.0 or higher, they kept supporting older versions. It looks like Android Oreo's days are numbered for real this time, and honestly, it's about time. As someone who upgraded from Oreo a while back, I can't say I'm surprised!
Furthermore, the settings in Android Auto are getting a little makeover. Right now, you can see four options at once, but Google's adding more space between each item. Because of this, you'll only see three at a time. It's a small change, but it could make the settings easier to navigate.
Last but not least, it seems like the app icon in the new media player UI will change color depending on the music you’re playing! The icon's color in the media player header shifts to match the song's accent. I tried it with Spotify, VLC, and Google News, and it worked! It didn't work with YouTube Music, though - maybe next time! If you're like me and love customizing everything, this will be a really interesting function to look forward to.
