Android 16 update causing lock screen issues on Pixel phones? You're not alone!
It seems like the latest Android 16 update, which was initially rolled out to Google Pixel phones, hasn't been entirely smooth sailing for everyone. While the update promised exciting new features like Advanced Protection Mode and anti-scammer measures, some users are reporting frustrating lock screen issues.
These problems, as highlighted on the Pixel Phone Help forum and Reddit, include everything from the tap-to-wake feature failing to work to the screen being unresponsive or slow to light up after pressing the power button. Furthermore, some are experiencing extreme brightness fluctuations and fingerprint scanner malfunctions. If you can finally unlock your phone, some people report experiencing UI sluggishness and app crashes.
Several users have attempted temporary solutions, such as restarting their phones. However, this only appears to provide a temporary respite before the lock screen issues resurface. A Google product expert suggested resetting adaptive brightness through the Device Health Services app as a possible workaround for the brightness issues. You can do this by navigating to Settings > Apps > All apps > Device Health Services > Storage and cache > Clear storage > Reset adaptive brightness.
While it's disheartening to hear about these issues, especially since they've been ongoing for about a month, the good news is that Google is aware of the lock screen problems and is actively working on a fix. There's no specific timeline for the release of the fix yet, but I'm sure Google is trying to get it out as soon as possible.
